´´I wanna take you down to Tenth Avenue now....let me tell you how
I got to Tenth Avenue....when I was a young man, I walked as a little child
and I walked down many avenues....the avenue of love, of fear....the avenue
of hope and of despair...the avenue of faith and the avenue of cynicism...the
avenue of commitment and the avenue of, of....inappropriate sexual contact !....a
very popular avenue....but wherever I walked, I was alone....and inside I felt
so blue....and so I came to an avenue, a sign said ´Tenth´, another
sign said ´E´ but I was frightened to go any further because I´d
never been down there before and because I was gonna have to give something
up....and I stood at the crossroads.....with that inner fight inside, trying
to work up my courage....and then I heard something....just up the avenue.....
something playing so sweet, come on, Roy (Roy plays)....that was Professor Roy
Bittan on the piano....playing down on that lonely avenue.....and so I walked
on in search of friendship....and I come to a man, come on, play it, Steve (Steve
plays) Stevie Van Zandt on the guitar....playing down on the soulful avenue....then
I walked on in search of some foundation, play it, Garry (Garry plays)...Mr.Garry
Tallent on the bass guitar....and then I walked on further down the avenue....come
on, Max (Max plays)...he learned that when he was working for the Ringling Brothers
Circus many years ago (chuckles) it´s still good (chuckles) and then I
walked on....and I was looking for a swinging little guitar man, come on (Nils
plays) the great Nils Lofgren on the guitar....and then I walked on and I came
to a city by the sea....and I could feel that spirit moving....oh, I could feel
it moving now and I walked up a flight of stairs....and I walked up anothe flight
of stairs....and there was a man standing there next to a woman in blonde buffoon
wig....from the great city of Flemington, New Jersey....home of Flemington Furs....(?)
where are you when we need you, baby ? come on, Dan (Dan plays) Phantom Dan
Federici on the organ.... and my soul was feeling lighter....but my heart was
still cold....and I felt so lonely.... so I thought....´I´ve got
to find my baby, I´ve got to find my girl now....I´m looking for
my baby, I´ve got to find my girl now, help me out.....I´m searching
here and there, I´m searching everywhere (crowd repeats) I said I´m
searching here and there, I´m searching everywhere (crowd repeats) I said
I´m searching here and there, I´m searching everywhere now (crowd
repeats) I said I´m searching here and there, I´m searching everywhere
now (crowd repeats) I said I´m looking for my love, I said (crowd repeats)
I said I´m looking for my love now, I said (crowd repeats)(Patti sings
a bit of ´Rumble Doll´) Miss Patti Scialfa on the guitar and vocals....and
now everything was starting to look pretty good....I took a chance but still,
it still wasn´t just right....there was still something really, really
important missing....something really essential....something that was gonna
make it all, all.....something really big....
say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say what
?....say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say what ?....say
what ?....say
what ?....say who ?....say who ?....say who ?....”

´´The great....state of New Jersey !....but everywhere I´ve
gone I´ve seen people lost in confusion....lost in the wilderness....lost
in bitterness, well, tonight we´re here on a search-and-rescue mission,
if you´ve been downhearted, disspirited, disgusted, dispossessed, we´re
coming to get you, if you´ve been analyzed, downsized, stigmatised, fractionalised,
factionalised, Pokemonized, Pickachuized, retropsychedelicized, we´re
coming to get you, if your soul´s got bad credit, it´s good here
tonight, if your heart´s running on empty, we´re gonna fill it on
up for you tonight, if your spirit´s bankrupt, we´re gonna lift
that debt up off you and set you free in the morning !....I´ve come here
to resuscitate, to regenerate, to reconfiscate, to reindoctrinate, to resexualate,
to rededicate, to reliberate you with the power, the promise, with the power,
the promise, the power, the promise, the majesty, the mystery, with the ministry
of rock and roll !....that´s my job !....now I know what you´re
saying, you´re saying ´Oh, ooh, ooh, I´ve got so many problems,
I´m worried about the Millenium....oh, the Y2K-problem, stocks up, my
bonds down, my bonds up, my stocks down, oh, mortality´....I´m scaring
you now, ´Mortality is rearing its ugly head´....and we all know
the Good Book says ‘Louie Louie, oh-oh, we’ve all got to go’
and I’m here tonight to tell you that I cannot....I cannot.....I cannot
promise you life everlasting....but I can promise you life.... right now !....and
all you’ve got to do is raise your hand and say ‘I’....”
