(....) at his mother´s feet....the first thing that strikes you when you
become a parent is....how there´s nothing you wouldn´t do to make
sure your children are safe....it can come as quite a shock for, uh, self-involved
musicians....Mother prays....
(....) shall pierce your dreams this night....now, if you believe that what
give our choices meaning....are the things we sacrifice for them....the parts
of life we give up ....I always figured that Jesus had to be thinking....Galilee
was pretty nice this time of year....there´s a little bar he could manage,
Mary Magdalene could tend the bar, they could have a bunch of....babies, they
could get to watch the sun fall on their face.... feel the air in your lungs....and
see the next day....and the next day....and the next day ....and the next day.....in
the garden at Gethesemane....”

“Yes....we carry with us....we carry with us the seeds of our destruction,
a part of the human package, along with the seeds of the things that bring life
and good things into the world but there is a very big tug-of-war all the time,
it´s very hard to come down on, uh....we have a hand that builds, we have
a hand that burns so this is a song about a man who just figures out how to
come down on the side, hopefully, of the hand that builds, this is called ´Leah´....”

about a young man who leaves home and goes to New Orleans, becomes a champion....comes
back, shorts himself, cheats himself, uh....this song is a conversation between
him and his mother....towards the end of his life....this is, uh, called ´The
Hitter,´ ´The Hitter´....”

every year, uh....many people coming into the United States, they, uh....die
coming across our mountains and across our deserts....and uh....this is a song
that I wrote for them, this song is told backwards, from the body at the bottom
of the river to the man standing on the banks, no, uh, no flash (?)....this
is ´Matamoros Banks´....”
