05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´Local Hero´
´´Thank you, thank you….oh yeah, this next song, I was driving
through my hometown, I looked into the window of J.J.Newberry´s….saw
a beautiful painting of a German shepherd, a doberman, Bruce Lee and myself
lovingly rendered on black velvet….on sale for 19.99….kind of puts
the whole job right into perspective for you real fast (chuckles) here we go….´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´The Big Muddy´
´´Thank you….thanks, this, uh…..this next song, this
is a song, I guess it’s….I think when we´re brought up, we´re
all sort of….sort of brought to believe that there´s a good thing,
that there´s good, that there´s bad and that there´s a right
thing to do and wrong thing to do….and that those lines are always somehow
gonna be easily discerned….I think you get a little older (?) you find
out about all those spaces in-between….where, uh, there´s usually
nothing but hard choices so….you find yourself down there in the Big Muddy….´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´57 Channels´
´´It’s 1992, you see American cities in flames again….you
reap what you sow….´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´If I Should Fall Behind´
´´Thank you….there´s, uh, this is, uh….I see some
folks out there with their kids tonight (chuckles) yeah, that´s nice,
I got a, have my own beautiful little boy, a beautiful little girl now, yeah….it
is a good thing (chuckles) it´s, uh….you know, it´s funny,
it´s like a big cliché, you know, it changes the way you see things
and what you think about things….before I had those kids, you know, it´s
so easy to get caught up in your own real life and the future seems very abstract,
you know (?) and after you have those kids, it´s sort of like, you have
the future right there pissing on your leg, you know, so (chuckles) yeah, makes
it very real, very tangible (chuckles) very fast but, uh….also makes the
world, you know, you see all the fear and the terror out there, when you lived
through the Los Angeles riots, as everybody had a chance to, thanks to television,
you got a glimpse of….of our own country, you know, on a particular day
when it didn´t matter what you thought or what you believed in or where
you stood, what you felt in your heart, all that mattered was what you looked
like, as to whether you were gonna live or die….and uh….I guess,
uh, you know, that´s, that´s not the kind of, I don´t think
that´s the kind of world or society we want our kids to grow up in (?)
as you get older, you know, it´s hard to put your faith in, uh, politicians
or in rock stars, for that matter (chuckles) but, uh, this next song is, I think,
one of my best songs about trying to, trying to do small things right and hoping
that the big things will follow….and uh…..gonna do, gonna do this
tonight for your kids out there and gonna do this tonight wishing Bill Clinton
good luck….´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´Leap of Faith´
´´Thank you….do this next song for all the divorcees out there
tonight….raise your hands (chuckles) this is kind of a song about (?)
it´s a song about kind of second chances, you know, after love kind of
stomps you into the ground, messes you all around….a song about divorce,
love, adultery, uh, how people keep coming back after they get all beat up….which
takes faith….oh yeah….when you get that faith, there´s hope,
when you get that hope….´cause you believe that where there’s
love, faith and hope, sex must be right behind so….this song, this is
kind of my, my own version of, this is, I like to think of this as my own Erotica,
you know, my version of Erotica so, uh…..(?) it sort of details my own
personal sexual habits, uh….in only thinly disguised imagery….a
book, a book will be following very shortly so….me in my large collection
of leopard skin underwear…no title, just ´50 bucks please´,
that´s all it´s gonna say….gotta make some extra dough now
that those records ain´t selling so well so, anyway, it takes a leap of
faith (?)….´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, after ´Roll of the Dice´
´´Thank you.....this is just half-time.....we´re gonna take
a short break, we´re gonna go backstage, lift a few weights, get on the
treadmill for a little while and we´ll be back out here with some more
rock and soul entertainment for you.....´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´Red Headed Woman´
´´Alright, somebody requested this at the hotel, got any red headed
women out there tonight ?....´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, middle of ´Light of Day´
´´I drove thousands and thousands of miles just to get here tonight....I
came around the world many times just to get here tonight.....I came via Sweden,
via Italy, via Rome, via France, via London, England just to get here tonight....via
New York City, via Chicago, via Dallas, Texas, via San Francisco....just to
get here to Indianapolis, Indiana tonight.... and I´m here tonight with
just one thing in mind.....I´m here tonight with just one thing in mind....I
know you´re downhearted.....I know you´re depressed....I know you´re
disillusioned....I know you´re disenchanted.....I know you´re disappointed.....I
know there´s 57 fucking channels and nothing on.....and I´m here
tonight with one thing in mind and when I say that thing I want the band to
give me a D-flat minor chord because I´m here tonight because, because,
give me one more hit, boys....because I´m just a prisoner... of rock and
roll, gimme an E....is there anybody alive out there ? (cheers)....´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, middle of ´Glory Days´
´´I wanna see some wild Indianans now....raise your hands in the
air....like you just don´t care....show the person next to you your underwear....alright,
here I come now....´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, intro to ´Born to Run´
´´Thank you....well, I haven´t been out here in a long time,
I promise next time I´m gonna try and get back sooner....well, until then
I can´t send you home without this one so here we go ....´´
05.12.92 Indianapolis, IN, middle of ´Santa Claus Is Coming to Town´
´´Alright, has everybody been good ? (cheers) no cheating on your
baby ? (cheers) no cheating on your taxes ? (cheers) alright, here we go....´´
