07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, intro to ´Spare Parts´
´´How you doing out there ? (cheers)....take it easy down there....this
is a song about a woman....a woman struggling to understand the value of her
own independent existence ... trying to put her past behind her....and find
something new and beautiful and meaningful in her life now....”
07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, intro to ´Chimes of Freedom´
´´We´re gonna be on the Amnesty International tour, gonna
be this fall...this is for Amnesty International and its idea, this is for all
you, hoping that you find....as much freedom as you´re searching for....”
07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, intro to ´You Can Look´
´´I remember I was a little baby....it starts when you´re
a little child....there was always somebody telling you that, uh, you can look
at something but that you can´t touch it.....I was a little baby crawling
across the floor heading for my television set....and I remember my mama saying...´Oh,
Son, don’t you touch that thing....hey, Son, don’t you touch that
thing....yeah, you can look but you can’t touch that thing´.....then
I remember I was about 10 years old and my mama took down to the department
store ....and I went over into the toy department....find this little cowboy
soldier that I liked....and I went over to it.....just about to get my hand
on it....and I heard the saleslady say....´Oh, son , don’t you touch
that thing .... oh, son, don’t you touch that thing ....yeah, you can
look but you can’t touch that thing´ .... and then I remember I
had me a girlfriend in high school....took her out to the movies....took her
out to dinner....took her to a nice, little, quiet place to....park.... it was
kind of dark, it was late at night....I started whispering sweet things in her
ear...I told her she´s the only one for me, ever was, ever would be....got
my hand on her knee....got my hand on her thigh....and just as I was heading
north....she said ´Hey, son don’t you touch that thing....oh, son,
don’t you touch that thing....yeah you can look but you can’t touch
that thing.....Well, son, don’t you touch that thing....hey, son, don’t
you touch that thing....yeah you can look but you don’t you touch that
thing....”
07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, intro to ‘I’m a Coward’
´´Is there anybody alive out there tonight ?....I mean do have any
alive Irish people out there tonight ?....that´s good....because I´ve
got a question that I want to ask you....just roll it, boys ....do we have any
rough, tough....badass Dublin men out in the audience tonight ? (cheers) .....do
we have any macho men out there ? (cheers)....because I’ve known men that
would swim rivers....that would climb mountains....that would wrestle with the
beasts of the jungle .....but I wanna tell you there was one thing that they
was afraid of.....there was something that scared them to death.....do you want
to know what that one thing was ? ....well, what I´m talking about is
L....U...V....I’m talking about love, love scared those men to death....
when they got next to love, those brave men ran home like babies to their mommies....that´s
right....now, do we have any sweet, sexy, brave, heroic Dublin women out there
tonight ? (cheers)....do we have any courageous Irish girls out there tonight
? (cheers)....come on, girls, let hear you now (cheers)....because I’m
talking to you too, that´s right.... I’ve known women that when
they got next to love, when they got next to that thing that they loved, they
ran home back to their loneliness and to their isolation....now, I’m not
down here tonight just pointing a finger....I´m down here because I´ve
got something that I´ve got to confess....and what I want to tell you
is that I have sinned !...and I don´t need no Jimmy Swaggert or Jerry
Falwell to forgive me, them boys can kiss my ass....I want to say that I´m
a brave man, if I don´t say so myself....but what I´ve got to confess
to is that I’m a coward when it comes to love......”
07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, intro to ´Born to Run´
´´Thanks...wrote this song when I was 24....been singing it for
about 15 years now....it´s kind of kept me company as I´ve been
growing up....it, uh, when I wrote this song, I guess I asked myself most of
the questions that I´ve been searching the answers to ever since....haven´t
found ´em yet (chuckles)....but uh, I hope this song´s, uh, kept
you as good company on your search for your answers as it has me on mine....wanna
do this for you, wishing you all love, home and happiness....”
07.07.88 Dublin, Ireland, middle of ´Light of Day´
´´....and last but not least.....we got the most handsome Irish
man you´ve ever seen, ladies and gentlemen....I´m talking to you
about the one, the only, the inimitable, the incredible, the unbelievable Clarence
´Big Man´ Clemons.....´´
