´´Thanks....(?) oh, alright....it´s good to be in Hartford.....alright....some
of you, uh, baseball fans, I will try to assuage your opinion (chuckles)....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´Part Man Part Monkey´´
´´I just read that 53 percent of the American people believe that
the Book of Genesis is literally true....that can shake the populism right out
of you (chuckles) I also heard that 60 percent of the American people believe,
believe that they have either been abducted by aliens or will be....I was in
Europe and I tried to explain to them that in the United States there is a great
debate that goes on about who came first, the Man or the monkey....and uh....the
monkey does not vote so this does not bode well for the monkey (chuckles)....
(....) Bubbles, where are you when we need you?....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´Something in the Night´´
´´A request....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´All That Heaven Will Allow´´
´´Thank you, thank you very much....alright....yes, let´s
bust out the baby piano, thank you, gentlemen, thank you, gentlemen, thanks,
there´s something for you in my will (?) yes, yes, that´s it, uh....ok,
let´s not talk about baseball, let´s, uh (chuckles) that´s,
uh, who said, anybody, who said that? I didn´t say that (chuckles)....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´Jesus Was an Only Son´´
´´Thank you, thank you very much....alright, I was writing, wrote
a lot of songs about parents and children on this last record and....uh, so,
you know, rock musicians, you always go back to the prototype, now, of course,
you know, with guys my generation, it´s Elvis, but all Italian and Irish
rock, rockers know that before, before there was Elvis, there was Jesus, you
see, He was actually the first frontman, and uh....(?) the Disciples, it´s
a fabulous band name, I don´t know why somebody hasn´t come up with
that one yet....Jesus and the Disciples (chuckles) in my next (chuckles) but,
uh, you know, when Jesus came from preachers, of course He´s from the
preaching, that´s where the frontmen came from, that´s where James
Brown got it and he passed it on to, uh, to us kids and so it all goes back,
uh, what can we say? uh, uh, that´s completely idiotic but it´s
true (chuckles) but, uh, anyway, wrote a lot of songs about parents and kids
and I was imagining what would, Jesus was, Jesus as someone´s son....
(....) at His mother´s feet....now the first thing that strikes you after
you become a parent is how there isn´t anything you....you wouldn´t
do to, uh, keep your kids safe, there´s no.... train you wouldn´t
step in front of and that that´s a life sentence.....
(....) shall pierce your dreams this night....I always figured that....the things
that give our, our choices meaning....are what we sacrifice for ´em, the
things we give up....I always figured that Jesus had to be thinking....that
it was really nice this time of year down in Galilee and there was that little
bar by the beach that needed a manager....and Mary Magdalene could tend bar
and they could have a bunch of kids and get to see the sun on their faces....and
get to watch the air fill their lungs at night when they´re sleeping....and
get to see the next day....and the next day....and the next day....and the next
day....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´Matamoros Banks´´
´´Thank you....I wrote this song and a series of other songs that
I wrote when I was living in California and, uh, there´s, uh, a lot of,
uh....every year there´s hundreds of people that die trying to come across
out southern border, they, they drown in the rivers and they, they die of dehydration
in the, in the deserts or in the backs of, of stuffy vans, being smuggled across,
uh....and if you, uh, if you eat strawberries or, or tomatoes, or, those are,
their hands are, are, are at your table, those are the folks, those are all
things that can´t be harvested by machine, they, there, there´s
people out there picking ´em all across the country and uh....we are sorely
in need of a humane immigration policy so....this is a song I wrote, uh, it´s
written backwards, it starts with the body at the bottom of the river and takes
you back through the man´s journey across the desert, this is called ´Matamoros
Banks´....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´I Wanna Marry You´´

you can get on the internet tonight ´cause I know that´s how you
get in touch, and ask people not to come to the stage until the end of the set,
alright?...you only need to (?) fingers across those little buttons (chuckles)....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´You Can Look´´
´´Alright, kids, wooo!....´´
07.10.05 Hartford, CT, intro to ´´The Promised Land´´
