seem like Monday night (chuckles)....thanks.....we’re gonna be playing
for....for a long time tonight so....you guys oughta ....just get to your seats
so the people behind you can see and everything ....get drunk, alright?.....don’t
get too comfortable , though (chukles)....and if you, if you got one of those
green things that I see once in a while , I’d appreciate it if you didn’t
throw ‘em , ok ?....because if you’re not looking and it hits somebody
in the eye or the back of their head, it really hurts, I’ve been hit in
the head a few times....so if you got something, please don’t throw it,
wave it around your head or whatever but please don’t throw ‘em
, ok ? .....this is called ‘Darkness on the edge of town’....”
13.10.80 St.Paul, MN, intro to ‘Independence Day’:
”Thank you.....it’s too early (chuckles), you gotta wait a while....it’s
only, only the beginning of October.....this is uh, one , two.....this is a
song we were doing, it’s on the new album which.....I think it’s
out today, I’m not sure.....I think it come out, yeah ? (cheers) .....it´s
in the stores ? ....what it look like ? (chuckles)....and....this was a song
we did on the last tour, it´s called Independence Day.....wrote it about....’bout
not leaving home , so I remember when I was 18 or 19 years old, I used to, you
know, I had my house and I had....there was the kitchen and the bathroom and
there was my folks and they were sorta like the livingroom sofa, always in the
house......anyway, this is, if you left home this year.....for the first time....this
song is for you, ok .....it’s for your folks too (chukles).....”

”We’re havin’ some fun now.......I met a bunch of guys at
the airport yesterday coming into the town.....any of you guys there (chuckles)(?)......one
of ‘em told me he had a friend that was sick so if that fellow that I
met is here, can you come to the side of the stage....at .... during the breaktime
, I got something for your pal backstage so.....(cheers).... this is for him
and this is for you......”
13.10.80 St.Paul, MN, intro to ‘I Wanna Marry You’:
”All these new songs, we gotta figure ‘em out up here (chuckles)......I
used to live on this, in this house that was on.....like the main street .....in
town was a street called South Street .....and every day I used to watch this
, this one girl walk by......and I think....she’d been married, she’d
been divorced and she had a couple of kids.....every day I used to sit on my
porch.....and I was.....I was about 18 or 19, I guess.....I used to try and
figure ways I was gonna go up and introduce myself to her.....well, I never
did and I moved away (chuckles) ....and you usually think that sometime.....usually
figure that you’re gonna forget about these things , you know, these people
you only see for like ten minutes.....or you only see walking by or something.....as
you get older , but for some reason you never do....and everytime, I remember.....I
used to imagine....that I was back in that house and she was walking by......and
I was gonna stumble across the street and drop some of my albums on the sidewalk
(cheers).....ups, excuse me, my albums (chuckles).....but you only get those
chances once......and if you ain’t got no albums, what you gonna do ?
(chuckles)....this is a new song, this is called I Wanna Marry You .....this
is ladies’choice (chuckles).....Big Man.....Here she comes......”
