´´Evening, Louisville, evening...glad to be here....Patti´s
not here tonight, she´s home nursing a bug but she told me to send her
love and I promise that the boys are gonna do their best for you....”

´´(sings ‘Take Me to the River’) that’s right....that’s
where I wanna go tonight....I wanna find my way to the riverside....to that
river of life....and that river of love.....I wanna find that river of faith....that
river of sanctification....and of transformation where you can go and you can
be changed....that river of resurrection ....where everybody gets a second chance....that
river of happiness.....that river of sexual healing....and companionship....that´s
where I wanna go tonight.....and I want you to go with me....because I need
to go with you....that´s why I´m here....that´s why we´re
here tonight....because you can´t get there by yourself....you can try
....but you can´t get there by yourself....so tonight I wanna throw a
rock and roll exorcism....a rock and roll baptism....and I wanna go with you
to the riverside....but once I stood, as a young man.....in the evening in front
of a dark grove of trees one evening and just like a little child I was frightened
to pass through those trees....to move on to the other side even though I knew
that waiting on the other side of those trees was the river of a meaningful
life and cold beer at a reasonable price.....but I was paralyzed .....and then
a gypsy woman called me onward and she said ´Son, what you need, what
you need is you need some help, you´ve got to have help to get through
these trees, what´s your, what is your line ?....oh, what you need is,
Son, is you need a band....to walk with you´....that´s why I wanna
introduce tonight the dean of the university of musical perversity, the Secretary
of intelligence, on the piano, Professor Roy Bittan ....standing with me at
the riverside, the foundation of the E Street nation, Southern man, Mr.Garry
W.Tallent on the bass.....with me at the riverside, the Minister of faith and
friendship, keeper of all that is righteous on E Street and star of the ´Sopranos´-TV-show,
Little Steven Van Zandt....stand with me, Brother, at the riverside.....I wanna
introduce the man that brings the power night after night, the Minister of the
mighty beat, star of Late Night Television, the righteous Max Weinberg.....that´s
right.....standing with me at the riverside, the Secretary of heart and spirit,
the Godfather of the guitar, the great Nils Lofgren..... standing with me at
the riverside, the Minister of mystery and all things unfathomable on E Street,
on the B-3 organ and accordion, Brother Dan Federici ..... I gotta send one
out to my baby (blows a kiss)....and then last but not least....last but not
least....the Minister of soul, Secretary of the brotherhood and if we lived
in a righteous nation, the next president of the United States....do I have
to say his
name ?....do I have to say his name ? ... say who ?....say who ?....say who
?....say who ?....say who ?....say who ? ....say who ?....say who ?....say who
?....say who ? ...”

´´Thank you, this is, uh....gonna do this tonight for the....folks
from the....the Dare-to-Care Foodbank that are with us in the hall tonight....they´re
a non-profit community agency, they´re dedicated to providing food and
training and technical assistance to Louisville´s struggling citizens....the,
uh, the economy is, there´s many, many people that are not being reached
by the economy and the Dare-to-Care Foodbank is there to supply, supply support
....and sustenance so that no child may go to bed at night hungry so we´re
gonna do this for those folks....remember them tonight when you go out into
the hall, the Dare-to-Care Foodbank, this is for you....”

´´Louisville !....Louisville !....but everywhere I´ve gone
I´ve seen people lost in confusion ....I´ve seen people lost in
the wilderness.....I´ve seen people lost in loneliness.... I´ve
seen people lost at Kentucky Derby....I´ve seen people lost in bitterness....well,
tonight we´ve come thousands and thousands of miles and we´re here
tonight on a search-and-rescue mission, we´re coming to get you, if you´ve
been downhearted, disspirited, disgusted, dispossessed, downsized, analyzed,
stigmatised, retropsychedelicized, Republicanised, if you´ve been, if
you´ve been discombobalized ...I´m here tonight....I´m here
tonight....I´m here tonight to re-educate you, to resuscitate you, to
regenerate you, to reconfiscate you, to reindoctrinate you, to resexualate you,
to rededicate you, to recongregate you, to reliberate you with the power and
the glory, with the power and the glory, with the majesty, with the mystery....with
the ministry of rock and roll !....with the power and the glory, with the power
and the glory, with the power and the glory, with the majesty, with the mystery,
with the ministry of rock and roll.....that´s right.....now, unlike my
competitors, unlike my competitors, I shall not, I will not, I can not promise
you life everlasting....but I can promise you life right now !....and all you´ve
got to do is raise your hand and say ´I´....”
