´´I remember when I was growing up...my old man used to lock the frontdoor so that me and my sister used to have to come in around the side at night and he´d be sitting in the kitchen waiting for us....and....he´d be sitting there too long all night, all the lights´d be out...and he used to always ask you the same question, he wanted to know what I thought I was doing.... he´d say ´Bruce, what do you think you´re doing?´ (chuckles) you know, and I would try to tell him about the things that I wanted to do....and I guess they were so far away from the things that he thought I ought to be doing that we were never able to....to carry on much of a conversation, right (chuckles) I guess ´cause when I was, when I was growing up, I had all these big ideas, all these big dreams of the things I was gonna do and by that time he´d lost, he´d lost all those things or I felt that he´d lost all those things inside of him and all I remember was him sitting every night for 18 years that we lived together, sitting at home every night in the kitchen and it wasn´t till I got older that I realised....that he´d sit there all night long by himself...and I never once asked him, I never once asked him what he was thinking about....and....I guess he was, he was just dreaming too....well....´´

´´Seems that....it seems that whenever times get tough, there´s always a....a resurgence of the kinds of, the kinds of people that try to tell, try to tell you that the country that you live in belongs either to a certain religious group or certain color or certain....this is a song that was written a long time ago by a guy named Woody Guthrie and uh....it´s never, it´s, uh, it´s.... this song is a dream, it´s....it´s like a challenge to you to try and make it true, try to make it real and it´s gonna come down, it´s gonna depend on you....´´

´´Thanks....I remember when I, when I wrote that song, I used to, I used to dream about Elvis singing it....and....I wrote that, it was in the beginning of, was in 1977 when we first worked on ´Darkness´....and it wasn´t, uh, wasn´t too much later that I remember I was sitting home and a friend of mine called me on the phone and told me that Elvis had died.... and I was thinking how he was only 42 and....how he must´ve....now, friends in this world, friends, having good friends around, people that, people that can help you out when you need ´em is an important thing....and I guess he didn´t, couldn´t have had too many of those....but ....this is a song, this is a song that I wrote for, for Elvis....´´
