17.09.88 Montreal, Canada, intro to ´My Hometown´
´´How are you tonight ? (cheers)....that´s good.....as a child.....when
I was young, rock and roll gave me a sense of so many things....gave me a sense
of, uh....in those early rock and roll records I heard a sense of life, a sense
of fun and good times....a sense of sex....a sense of human possibility....but
most of all, I heard a sense of freedom.....I think that the best....the best
music, the best rock and roll music has always presented a tremendous sense
of freedom.....I think that....as you get older, one of the challenges of adulthood
is how to hold on to your idealism after you´ve lost your innocence.....how
you hold on to that sense of freedom....when you begin to understand life´s
limits....with Amnesty International, you can hold on to your idealism and you
can put your ideals in service in a world in which they are so badly needed.....you
can the world a little less oppressive and a little less hateful.....and you
can let that voice of freedom....ring stronger....around the world....from my
hometown all the way to your hometown.....”
