´´Yeah....gonna get a little help on this song....I’d like
to introduce a man that’s finally encouraged me to go into my acting career,
we’re gonna get together and do a remake of Abbott and Costello Goes to
Mars.....I’d like to bring out my new best friend.....Sting.....”
21.09.88 Los Angeles, CA, intro to ‘My Hometown’
´´How you doing out there tonight ? (cheers).....got the weather
with us....(?)....when I was a kid, I got a sense of so many things from rock’n’roll
music.....I got a sense....a sense of life .....what living could be about.....and
a sense of fun and of good times..... high spirits....got a sense of sex....a
sense of possibility....but most of all, I think I got a sense of freedom....on
all those early rock’n’roll records, I listened to the singers....they
had some sense of freedom .....I think that the best rock’n’roll
has always made that....one....transcendant moment of freedom.....well....in
the end that’s why we’re here tonight....´cause Human Rights
violations aren’t just something that happen a thousand miles away around
the world.....when you pass that homeless man or woman on the street.....there
are Human Rights being violated....when people in this very city are deprieved
of their economic and social rights....there are Human Rights being violated....
now tonight you have the opportunity to let the voice of your hometown be heard
all around the world.....you got an opportunity to let the voice of freedom.....and
decency sound just a little bit louder....and most of all, you got an opportunity
to break out of that isolation that burdens us so much here in the United States
and to join the world community....that’s what Amnesty International is
about....use your freedom to help others win their freedom.....so....take the
stand, join Amnesty International and let freedom ring.....”
