29.10.04 Miami, FLA, intro to ´´The Promised Land´´
´´(someone: ´´You know the man is here, John Kerry,
but we have another man....we have another man that´s here....that I´m
about to bring on right now....and that man´s name is Bruce Springsteen!)(U2´s
´´Beautiful Day´´ plays) Hola, Miami, como esta ? (cheers)
how are you ?....glad to be here tonight, uh, Senator Kerry invited me out to
be his opening act so, uh....I´ll do what I can.....´´
29.10.04 Miami, FLA, intro to ´´No Surrender´´
´´Thank you....thank you, Florida....thank you.....as a songwriter,
I've been writing....I´ve been writing about America for 30 years, who
we are, what we stand for, what we fight for ....and I believe that these ideals
are what's at stake on November 2nd....I think our American government has drifted
too far from American values....the human principles, the human principles of
economic justice, healing the sick, health care, feeding the hungry, housing
the homeless, a living wage so folks don´t have to break their backs and
come home at the end of the day and still not being able to make ends meet....protection
of our environment....a sane and responsible foreign policy....civil rights.....and
the safeguarding of our precious democracy here at home....and I believe Senator
Kerry honors these ideals....he´s, uh, he´s lived our history over
the past 50 years, he has an informed adult view of America and her people and
he´s had the life experience and he understands that we as human beings
are not infallible....as Senator Edwards said during the Democratic convention
struggle and heartbreak will always be with us and that's why we need each other,
that's why ´United We Stand,´ that's why 'One Nation Indivisible´....cannot
become empty slogans but they need to remain guiding principles of our public
policy....and Senator Kerry, since he was a young man has shown us that by having
the encourage and facing America's hard truths, that´s both the good and
the bad, that that's where we find a deeper patriotism, that's where we find
a more complete view of ourselves....that's where we find a more authentic experience
as citizens, and that's where the power that is embedded only in truth to make
our world a better place for our kids....well, Paul Wellstone....a Minnesota
senator....said that the future is for the passionate and those that will work
hard for it....well, the future is now, it´s tonight, the next three days,
four days so it´s time to roll up your sleeves and let your passions flow....in
the service of a more just and responsible American government, together I believe
we can
move America toward her deepest ideals and that's why I'm here to stand alongside
Senator Kerry tonight and to tell you that the country we carry in our hearts
is waiting....besides, we´ve already had a sax player, we need a guitar
player in the White House, that what I (chuckles) so this is for John, this
is for you, John.....´´
