”When I was.....around 16....my old man.....used to lock up the frontdoor
so that me and my sister used to have to come in ‘round the back.......and
he’d always be sitting at the kitchen table.....and it was always late
at night that we’d start.....talking.....we’d end up arguing all
the time (?).....things that meant a lot to me didn’t mean a lot to him....now
I know for a long time I was always angry because I always.....I always used
to feel that....he always cut me short.....and later on as I, as I got a little
older, I started......to think about.....how he sat at that kitchen table for,
uh.....all the years that I was ....growing up in that house.....by himself
(?).....and I never once.....asked him what he was thinking about....it seems
when I was.....in those days, I used to think that....I guess (?) my folks because
they were my folks they didn’t have (?) the same.... the same dreams or
things that (?)......”
30.07.81 Cleveland, OH, middle of ‘Rosalita’:
”Ladies and gentlemen.....we have with us tonight....on our stage.....behind
the piano... a man who came here tonight....all the way from Long Island.....that´s
a long drive.... the only member of the band with a high school diploma.....so
let’s hear it for higher education and.....Professor Roy Bittan (cheers).....and
then we got a guy.....in a red shirt....he’s a poet of the soul, master
of rock and roll.....all the way from Asbury Park, New Jersey, a man who brought
you such great hits as ‘I don´t wanna go home’..... ‘Sweeter
than honey’ .....’This time it’s for real’.....’Some
things just don’t change’..... ‘Daddy’s come home’
.....’Trapped again’, I’m talking about the great Miami Steve
Van Zandt (cheers).....and a (?) spokesman also.....and now on the bass guitar,
a man all the way from Neptune, New Jersey .....I’m talking about the
great Garry W.Tallent on the bass, let’s hear it (cheers) .....(?) the
bass player.....now we got a (?) back there on the drums.....all the way from
South Orange, (?) the big beat, I’m talking about the Mighty Max Weinberg
on the drums (cheers)....on the organ......from Flemington, New Jersey, the
most mysterious member of the band, the only member with a red hair, I’m
talking about Phantom Dan Federici on the organ (cheers).....and now last....but
not least (cheers).....I don’t blame you for being excited....the guy
I’m gonna introduce now is a great humanitarian, a great veterinarian,
a great vegetarian, I’m talking about a close personal friend of mine,
everybody knows him as the king of the world..... the master of the universe.....the
emperor of all things.....the prince of the city.....the duke of Paducah......I’m
talking about, I’m talking about.....give me a C.....L....A.....R....E....
